The invention relates to a limiting device for short circuits in an alternating current - low-voltage switchgear, in particular in a wind power plant with at least one current generator (wind turbine generator 6) for feeding into a medium-voltage network 100. In this case, electrical energy of at least one power cabinet 8, 8 '', by way of conducting element 12.1, 12.2'' and collecting line 12 to a transformer 70, which voltage level, the voltage on means for feeding into the medium-voltage network 100 lifts. On the medium-voltage side, between transformer 70 and medium-voltage network 100 means voltage power switch 80 present. The plant is on the low-voltage side with an electric arc - and short equipped, in the monitoring system. The collecting line 12 is associated with a current sensing means 50. Parallel to the collecting line 12 is a multiphase, in particular of a three-phase quickly arranged shortly normally-open contact 60. In the presence of a of the current sensing means 50 and determined by means of a fault arc or a short-circuit current caused by the monitoring system is a trigger signal to the rapidly shortly normally-open contact 60 and a shutdown pulse is transmitted to the average voltage transmitted power switch 80.
