The method involves supplying fluid e.g. lacquer, to a container (9), and conveying the fluid from the container to a dosing device (3) by a flow pump (12) of a supply device (15). The fluid is conveyed away from the dosing device by a return pump (13) of the supply device. A fill level of the fluid in the dosing device is monitored by a sensor (4), and the flow pump is controlled such that the fill level is held constant depending on the result of monitoring of the fill level of the fluid, where the flow rate of the return pump is maintained unchanged. An independent claim is also included for a printing system comprising a supply device.
