The communication unit (100) has a control unit (102) which is arranged between two Wireless local area network (WLAN)-modes (103,104). The WLAN-modes are implemented by a WLAN-chip, where one WLAN-mode is a consumer WLAN-mode and another WLAN-mode is a vehicle-to-X-mode. The former WLAN-mode is a mode selected from a group having WLAN institute of electrical and electronics engineers (IEEE) 802.11a, WLAN IEEE 802.11b, WLAN IEEE 802.11gand WLAN IEEE 802.11n. The latter WLAN-mode is a WLAN IEEE 802.11pmode. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for receiving data for a transport unit; (2) a program element which is implemented on a processor; and (3) a program element which is provided on a computer-readable medium.
