The filter (10) has a catalyst layer with a catalyst component for lowering oxidation temperature of exhaust particles. Average pore size of the catalyst layer is larger than average pore size of a substrate layer. Volume percentage of pores with a pore size larger than or equal to a determine pore size is adjusted in the catalyst layer based on volume of the pores. The volume percentage is adjusted such that the exhaust particles are precipitated around a border area between the catalyst layer and the substrate layer when exhaust gas transmits through a filter wall (14).
