The device has a basket (10) housing a spare wheel (5), and held by a rear structure of a motor vehicle, where the structure has a floor beam (1) forming a lower support zone (1a) for supporting the front of the basket. Longitudinal beams (3) i.e. auxiliary longitudinal members, are arranged below the basket. The basket and each beam (3) are connected between each other by a tilting unit (20) tilting the basket around the support zone such that the basket is pivoted towards the top during a rear shock. The tilting unit has a lever (21) connecting a rear end (3a) of the beam (3) to the basket.
