The piece i.e. turbine shaft (10), has balancing units mounted on a cylindrical bearing (14) of the piece. The balancing units comprise a ring (22) e.g. eccentric type ring, made of shape memory type superelastic alloy and locked on the bearing of the piece. The center of gravity of the ring is remote from a symmetry axle (30) of its internal surface (32) and positioned to compensate unbalance of the rotating piece. The friction coefficient between the ring and the piece is greater than 0.7, where the ring carries counterweight. The alloy is selected from nickel, titanium or copper alloy. An independent claim is also included for a method for balancing a rotating piece in a turbomachine.
