Preparing an inorganic oxide comprises (a) at least partially dissolving the precursors of the inorganic oxide in a liquid medium and (b) heating the resulting solution to precipitate the oxide, where the solution contains an oxide precursor having a neutral or acidic pH before heating, and a compound (A) capable of releasing an inorganic or organic base, when heated.
