The method involves positioning a skin (1) in a mold (3), closing the mold, and injecting a material i.e. foam material that forms a body, on a non-visible surface of the skin. A light spotting pattern (4) is projected on a part of the mold on which the skin is positioned. The skin is positioned such that remarkable zones of the skin correspond to remarkable zones of the pattern. Part of stitching lines (2) or visual characteristics is used as the remarkable zones of the skin. An independent claim is also included for a device for manufacturing a trim element of a motor vehicle.
