Preparing nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide (N-TiO 2) comprises: hydrolysis of a precursor of titanium dioxide with a first aqueous ammonia solution until it reaches substantially neutral pH; recovering the solid hydrolysis product; cleaning the product with a seconds aqueous ammonia solution; and drying and calcining the product.
