The system has a ceramic honey comb structure (5) defining a set of rectilinear conduits (10) for flow of exhaust gas, and a catalytic impregnation layer (7) covering walls of the conduits, where the structure is housed in an stainless steel enclosure. A first zeolite layer (6) partially covers the walls of the conduits. The zeolite and impregnation layers are superposed with each other, and the zeolite layer is located above or below the impregnation layer. The zeolite layer and a second zeolite layer (8) and the impregnation layers are in direct contact with each other. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine, comprising an engine-block with cylinders.
