The kit has a parallelepiped body (1) including a peripheral wall and an end wall (4) defining a central housing. A bottom part (6) is fixed in a removable manner on a face of the body so as to close the housing. The bottom part is provided with a cylindrical or tapered spike that is projected from the housing. The spike is inserted in food item e.g. biscuit. The end wall is provided with a pin projected from the housing. The pin is inserted into a hollow part with shape similar to that the item, so as to maintain the item in position in the housing. A support plate is mounted in the body. An independent claim is also included for a method for dressing a dessert plate.
