The circuit has a supply branch provided with voltage sources (V11, V12). An energy recovery branch is arranged parallel to a discharge lamp (EL10). The energy recovery branch includes a switch (X12) and a transformer (X13), which is provided with a primary inductor and secondary inductor. A switching branch is connected to a terminal of the lamp and connected to the supply branch. The switching branch includes self-inductors (L11, L12). An independent claim is also included for a lighting system comprising a lamp whose capacity ranges between 0.5 nano Farad and 5 nano Farad.
