The process comprises liming the sludge by mixing with quicklime in a twin-screw co-rotating sleeve (4). The sludge is deflocculated before introducing into the sleeve. The sleeve comprises an input supply, an output supply, a first transport zone (5), a first mixing zone (6), a second transport zone (7) and a second mixing zone (8), where the sludge is transported from the input supply to the output supply. The second transport zone defines an input line for lime. The ratio of the mass of a part of lime and the total mass of lime and the sludge introduced into the sleeve is less than 20%. An independent claim is included for a mixing device for the post-treatment of sludge.
