The device has a parallelepiped shaped tool holder comprising a cutting tool (14) i.e. cutter, to cut branches. A pad (16) of the tool is supported against a young plant (10) for maintaining the tool at a distance (e) from a trunk of the plant. The tool has a rotation axle (20) arranged in a transverse plane with respect to the plant. A return unit is provided so as to cause rotation of an arm in an adequate direction, so that the pad is maintained against the plant. Rollers have a relatively flexible coating e.g. rubber, in a surface.
