The method involves determining dilution rate of fuel in a lubricating oil of a heat engine, and elaborating limited performance level of the engine with respect to the dilution rate, where limited performance level is less than a predefined normal performance level of the engine. A cumulative duration is deducted when the performance level of the engine required by a driver is higher than the limited performance level. An alarm on the need for carrying out a draining of oil is triggered when the cumulated duration passes above a predefined temporal threshold for the attention of the driver. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a motorization system of a motor vehicle.
