The invention relates to a method for preparing a rare-earth sulphide from an oxygenated rare-earth compound, including a step a) of reacting the oxygenated rare-earth compound with a sulphur compound of the formula (I) where: R is a linear or branched alkyl radical or linear or branched alkenyl radical with 1 to 4 carbon atoms; n is equal to 0, 1 or 2; x is equal to 0 or is an integer between 1 and 10, x preferably being an integer equal to 1, 2, 3 or 4; R' is a linear or branched alkyl radical or linear or branched alkenyl radical with 1 to 4 carbon atoms or, if n = x = 0 only, a hydrogen atom; wherein said oxygenated rare-earth compound can be an oxide of said rare-earth element, a hydroxide of said rare-earth element, a hydrocarbonate of said rare-earth element, or a carbonate of said rare-earth element, or a mixture of all the abovementioned compounds.
