A stabilising means for use with a kayak or similar vessel utilises the paddle or similar means of manual propulsion to stabilise the vessel alongside a landing stage or similar construction, by attaching the paddle handle using two anchored straps to the deck of the vessel. The blade of the paddle is placed flat on the landing stage whilst the handle is placed across the deck of the vessel. In one embodiment the handle is seated in the niche between two grooves, formed in the deck of the vessel, and secured by use of anchored straps. In a second embodiment the handle is secured using straps attached to the deck of the vessel. The paddle should protrude further on one side of the vessel enabling it to project over the landing stage. The paddle is then released easily from the retaining straps and used to propel the craft. When alighting, the reverse procedure is employed.
