Disclosed is a method for loading software into RAM. The software is stored in paged form on a storage medium. When a part of the software to be loaded is required the memory management system loads the components by finding a location in RAM into which software can be placed. The part to be loaded is modified according to the location found in the RAM, and then loaded into the RAM. The software may be modified by updating memory pointers in the components. The software may be demand paged into RAM, with the demand being generated by a thread attempting to access the page and thus generating page fault. The pages may be loaded into the RAM as a cache in a FIFO basis. The cache may be a two level cache, with the size of the two parts maintained at a fixed ratio.
