Apparatus and method of displaying multiple points of interest on a personal navigation device

A method of displaying points of interest (POI) 31 on the map display 20 of a personal navigation device (PND) includes searching for POI within an area 22 surrounding the location 15 of a touch input from the user and displaying them as icons / symbols 30 on the map. The icons are spread out around the touched position to separate them from each other and connected to their true locations with a lead-line 32. They may shift radially or tangentially to avoid overlap or prevent lead-lines from intersecting. Displacement distances may increase with increasing numbers of POI and the search radius may increase with the duration of the touch-input, subject to upper thresholds. Icons may fade away or 'pop' and disappear after a predetermined time period has elapsed.
