DVD player with function of displaying multinational text-type subpicture simultaneously

A DVD player provides multinational, or multiple language subtitles, displaying them as a sub-picture (figure 4), the sub-picture being generated according to a transform mode TM (e.g. real-time or batch processing). A navigation and preload unit 15 receives data from a DVD 14, including sub-picture data, and receives language selection 12 and transform mode 13 control signals, and outputs digital data to a de-muxer unit 16 and sub-picture data 203 to a sub-picture transforming unit 204 which transforms it into image pictures 205 under control of a signal control unit 202 according to the language selection 12 and transform mode 13. Sub-picture transforming unit 204 and signal control unit 202 form part of a text-type sub-picture generation module 20, which generates a sub-picture display file which is stored in the text-sub-picture buffering unit 207. The de-muxer unit 16 outputs audio data to an audio output device 21 via audio decoding unit 17 and video data to a video sub-picture composing unit 22 via video decoding unit 18, the composing unit 22 receiving and linking the video data and sub-picture display file for display on video output device 23. The sub-picture display may include browsing area, vocabulary explanation, pronunciation help, and selecting a sentence may start playback of the video from that point. The DVD player may be used in language learning.
