Power distribution and data communication in a modular network over multi-core cables comprising electrical conductors and optical fibre

In a modular optical data network composite cabling is used, in which a data bus and an electrical conductor is encased within the same sleeving. This relieves the requirement for multiple separate power cables and data cables, with the attendant safety hazards. A terminating connection may be made to both the electrical conductor and the data bus at the same point. Optical fibre may be used for the data bus. Connection to the cable may be by an insulation piercing clamp.
