Educational music keyboard with coloured illuminated keys corresponding to coloured musical score

A method of reading and playing musical notation 28 comprises a plurality of adjustable light emitting elements 36, each associated with a different white key 30 on a keyboard 14, so that each key is designated by a different colour emitted by the respective light emitting element 36. A plurality of separate musical notation sheets 28 are also provided: a first musical notation sheet (60) displays notes having colours which correspond to the colours of the light emitting elements 36, while a second said musical notation (62) displays notes having reduced amount of those colours. The illumination of the light emitting elements 36 when using the second musical notation (62) is at a lower level than the illumination of the light emitting elements 36 when using the first musical notation 60. Each light emitting element 36 may comprise four LEDs, where the level of illumination is reduced by turning one or more LED off.
