PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for transferring power without requiring any direct electric contact. PSOLUTION: The system for transferring power is provided with a primary unit which includes a power supply and a substantially laminar charging surface having: one conductor that generates electromagnetic field when a current flows in it; and a charging region demarcated within a region around the surface. The at least one conductor is arranged in the charging surface, so that an electromagnetic line generated by the at least one conductor becomes substantially parallel to the plane of the surface or becomes at least within an angular range of 45 or less with respect to the surface. The system is also provided with at least one secondary unit which includes at least one conductor wound around a core. Coupling to a thin secondary unit like a portable telephone is improved in various directions of the charging region, as the electromagnetic field extends on the charging region to be substantially parallel or roughly parallel to the charging region.
