PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an infrared ray reflecting material which has a black color and excellent infrared ray reflecting ability. PSOLUTION: A multiple oxide represented by general formula: MeSBx/SBMnSBy/SBOSBz/SB(wherein, Me is at least one kind of metal selected from the group comprising Ca, Sr, Ba and Mg, the values of x, y and z are as follows; zxy, and y1.8) has a black-based color. The infrared ray reflecting material containing the multiple oxide has excellent infrared ray reflecting ability. The material is produced by a method comprising mixing an alkaline earth metal compound and a manganese compound each in a prescribed amount and firing the resulting mixture, or the like. It is possible to use the obtained multiple oxide by blending the multiple oxide with a coating material or a resin composition because the multiple oxide is powdery for various applications, for example, relaxation of the heat island phenomenon by applying the resulting blend on a roof or external wall of a building or on a road or pavement.
