PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bright liquid crystal lens having a high response speed, and variable in a focal length thereof.;SOLUTION: A first transparent electrode 103 is formed on a first curved transparent substrate 101, and a second transparent electrode 104 is formed on a second curved transparent substrate 102 in the same manner. The first and the second transparent substrates 101 and 102 are superposed on each other while interposing an insulating spacer 105 therebetween. A blue phase liquid crystal is sealed into a enclosure in between the first and the second transparent substrates 101 and 102 to form a liquid crystal layer 106. In the liquid crystal lens, the focal length (f) of the liquid crystal lens 100 is varied by controlling a voltage applied to the first and the second transparent electrodes 103 and 104, and then, changing the strength of the electric field formed in the liquid crystal layer 106. The liquid crystal lens 100 uses the blue phase liquid crystal, and accordingly, it is unnecessary to use the polarization effect and to use a polarization plate therein, then, the bright lens having higher response speed is provided.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
