PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for ejecting a liquid capable of reducing the frequency of maintenance works such as replacing its absorbent necessary for maintaining the function of a flushing unit that receives a preliminary ejection of a functional liquid, a maintenance method for a head maintenance apparatus, and a head maintenance apparatus.;SOLUTION: The apparatus for ejecting a liquid includes a liquid ejection head that ejects a liquid, a receiver for receiving a preliminary ejection of a liquid ejected in the process of carrying out a preliminary ejection by the liquid ejection head, and a cleaning-liquid supply means of supplying the receiver in question with a cleaning liquid, and further includes a head carriage whereon the liquid ejection head is mounted, capable of moving relative to a mounting face in the direction roughly parallel to the mounting face whereon an ejection object on which the liquid ejected from the liquid ejection head is to be disposed, is mounted.
