PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel having excellent vibration-damping properties which can deal with requests for the reduction of vibration and noise and collision safety, a method for producing the same, and a vibration-damping body comprising the steel.;SOLUTION: The steel comprises, by weight, 0.001 to 0.20% carbon, 0.01 to 3.0% silicon, 5.0 to 18.0% manganese, 0.01 to 20.0% chromium, 0.001 to 0.1% aluminum, and the balance iron. The steel is melted so as to have a chemical composition satisfying the condition that stacking fault energy (SFE)(mJ/m2) is ≤20 (mJ/m2), and the content of a ε-Ms phase is controlled to 10 to 50 vol.% by a production method satisfying prescribed heat treatment conditions, cooling conditions and cold working conditions.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
