PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an MR damper having a main channel MR piston assembly for reducing two-step inclination force lamp at low MR piston speed and increasing driving force. PSOLUTION: The magnetorheological (MR) damper includes the piston assembly 112 having a primary channel disposed along a longitudinal axis and contained in a cylinder. MR fluid is contained in the cylinder. The primary channel MR piston assembly 112 includes a piston body 118 having a first end 124 axially spaced from a second end 126 and defining a hole therethrough. The primary channel is defined in an outer body surface of the piston body 118 from the hole at the second end 126 to a coil groove 136 in the outer body surface about the axis. A secondary channel 154 is defined in the outer body surface from the coil groove 136 towards the first end 124 to improve MR damper force performance at low primary channel MR piston assembly velocities.
