PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new temperature-responsive chromatography carrier based on an idea totally different from a conventional technique, to provide a method for manufacturing such a carrier, and to provide temperature-responsive chromatography using such a carrier. PSOLUTION: An atom transfer radical polymerization initiator is immobilized to the surface of a substrate. A polymer of which the hydration force changes within the temperature range between 0-80°C by an atomic transfer radical method under a catalyst from the initiator is highly densely immobilized to the surface of the substrate at a ratio of 0.08 molecular chain/nmSP2/SPor greater and made to produce a growth reaction in such a way that the amount of polymer immobilization may be between 0.8-10.0 mg/mSP2/SP. The polymer is a noncrosslinked body made of any one or two or more of a poly-N-substituted acrylamide derivative; a poly-N-substituted methacrylamide derivative; their copolymer; polyvinyl methyl ether; and a polyvinyl alcohol partial acetate.
