PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing copper, which efficiently melts iron scrap with little energy consumption and also can efficiently remove copper in the iron scrap without needing a large-scale facility, when producing a high-grade steel by using the iron scrap as an iron source.SOLUTION: The method for removing copper in the iron scrap includes: using an arc furnace 1 having a melting chamber 2 and a shaft-type preheating chamber 3 which is directly connected to the top part of the melting chamber and into which an exhaust gas produced in the melting chamber is introduced; producing molten iron 21 by carburization-melting the iron scrap in the melting chamber while supplying the iron scrap to the preheating chamber so that the state can be kept in which the iron scrap 20 continually exists in the preheating chamber and the melting chamber; then blowing and adding a sulfur-containing flux to the produced molten iron in the melting chamber through a lance 10 for blowing the flux for removing copper to remove copper contained in the molten iron; and tapping the molten iron from which copper has been removed to a holding vessel from the arc furnace.
