PROTECTING CONTENT FROM ILLICIT REPRODUCTION BY PROOF OF EXISTENCE OF COMPLETE DATA SET USING SECURITY IDENTIFIER

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the protection of a copy-protected material to include the protection of an uncompressed content material. PSOLUTION: A number of data items are selected for inclusion in a data set so as to discourage the transmission of the entire data set over a limited bandwidth communications path such as the Internet. The data set includes an entirety parameter that is used to determine whether the entirety of the data set is present. In a preferred embodiment, the entirety parameter is a hash value that is based on a watermark of each data item. When presented for rendering, the watermark of the data item in the presented material is read and a hash value based on the presented watermark is computed. Mismatch between the computed hash value and the entirety hash value contained in the data set indicates that the entirety of the data is not presented, and the rendering is prohibited.
