PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production process for an oxide ceramic which is capable of forming a high quality sintered body (oxide ceramic) having few defects such as pores inside with a simple process.;SOLUTION: The production process for an oxide ceramic relates to a production process for an oxide ceramic including at least one kind of metal elements selected from the group consisting of Mg, Zn, and Al. The production process comprises a step to form a fine particle-deposited body 19 by depositing a deposited layer of the fine oxide particles of the metal element on the surface of a core member 18 using vapor phase synthesis, and a step to heat the fine particle-deposited body 19. Preferably, the oxide ceramic is a spinel (translucent spinel ceramic 20).
