PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for synthesizing an alkenyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon in a good selectivity by alkenylation of an aromatic hydrocarbon with an olefin. ;SOLUTION: This method for producing an alkenyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon comprises alkenylating an aromatic hydrocarbon with an olefin by using β-diketone together with a rhodium complex catalyst in the presence of oxygen and the absence of oxidation cocatalyst. The method for producing the alkenyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon, not requiring the oxidation cocatalyst such as a copper-containing compound or a silver-containing compound is provided by using the rhodium complex as the catalyst and adding the β-diketone to the reaction system when the aromatic hydrocarbon is alkenylated with the olefin in the presence of oxygen. A reaction for alkenylating benzene with ethylene in order to obtain styrene is exemplified as one useful reaction thereof.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
