PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic polycarbonate having excellent hue while keeping the molding characteristics.;SOLUTION: The aromatic polycarbonate having a viscosity-average molecular weight of ≥16,000 is produced by the transesterification reaction of a carbonic acid diester and an aromatic dihydroxy compound. The Mv/Mn' ratio of the viscosity-average molecular weight (Mv) to the number-average molecular weight (Mn') calculated from the total terminal number of the molecule is ≥1.8 and ≤3.5 and the value (swell ratio) calculated by dividing the cross-section area of a strand extruded by a melt-index measurement at 280°C applying 11 kg load on a molten resin to the cross-section area of an orifice is ≥1.2 and ≤4.0.
