PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust the coldest part temperature to a desired temperature according to the temperature of a cooling block.;SOLUTION: A low-pressure mercury lamp 10 has a low-pressure vapor mercury discharge tube 11 and a metal base 12 which supports the discharge tube and is constituted mountable on the cooling block 16. A recess groove 12a to seat the discharge tube on the metal base is formed and a sheet-like object 18 is inserted between the recess groove and the discharge tube in order to reduce a heat-transfer amount per unit area. That sheet-like object is preferably composed of a mesh-state metal sheet, a glass fiber sheet, a ceramic fiber sheet, a carbon fiber sheet, or a resin sheet. In an adjusting method of the coldest part temperature, the temperature of a mounting part at a prescribed temperature is maintained by cooling through mounting the metal base on the cooling block of which the temperature is constantly maintained.
