PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal compound having general properties necessary for the compound, moderate optical anisotropy, moderate dielectric anisotropy and excellent compatibility with other liquid crystal compounds.;SOLUTION: The liquid crystal compound is expressed by general formula (1) (R^a is hydrogen, a 1-15C alkyl, a 1-15C alkoxy or the like; A¹ and A² are each independently 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene, fluorinated 1,4-phenylene or the like; X^a and X^b are each independently fluorine or hydrogen; G is -(C=O)- or -CF₂-; Z¹ and Z² are each independently single bond, -(CH₂)₂- or the like; m and n are each independently 0 or 1 provided that m and n are not 0 at the same time; and X^b is fluorine when G is -C(=O)-).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
