PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for customizing a graphical user interface of a complex machine. PSOLUTION: User interface specification data are transmitted from a device to a complex machine. User interface specification data define a desired display and operation behavior for the user interface. Result data are received at the device from the complex machine. Result data define whether the user interface has been updated to reflect the user interface specification data. Other aspects provide for copying the graphical user interface from a source complex machine to a destination complex machine, scheduling a point in time to update one or more graphical user interfaces to reflect the user interface specification data, and establishing the number of uses to apply the user interface specification data to the one or more user interfaces.
