PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for evaluating the surface covering state of a magnesium hydroxide based flame retarder, and to easily evaluate the dispersion property and the like of the magnesium hydroxide based flame retarder to resin.;SOLUTION: A surface-treated magnesium hydroxide based flame retarder is dispersed into a dispersant solution, and a strong acid titrant is dripped at a fixed speed for measuring pH. The covering state of the surface of magnesium hydroxide is evaluated from the degree of decrease in pH when a fixed amount of strong acid titrant is dripped. The concentration of the titrant is set to be 0.01-1 wt.%, that of the magnesium hydroxide based flame retarder is set to be 0.1-5 wt.% to form a strong acid. Preferably, the dripping speed is set to 0.1-5 mmol/min as a hydrogen ion to 1 mol magnesium hydroxide in the flame retarder.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
