PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel polyhydroxyalkanoate bearing sulfide structure and an efficient method of producing the same. ;SOLUTION: A microorganism capable of producing polyhydroxyalkanoate is cultured in a medium including ω-{[(substituted phenyl) methyl]sulfanyl}alkanoic acid and the polyhydroxyalkanoate including 3- hydroxy-ω-[(substituted phenylmethyl)sulfanyl-alkanoic acid units is recovered by the solvent extraction and the like whereby the objective novel polyhydroxyalkanoate is produced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
