PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy thin film effective for a perpendicular magnetic film, such as for a high density magnetic recording medium.;SOLUTION: An Sm-Co alloy based perpendicular magnetic anisotropic thin film is made of an alloy containing Sm and Co, that has a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, with the easy direction of magnetization oriented perpendicular to the film surface and its forming method is provided. The Sm-Co alloy based perpendicular magnetic anisotropy thin film has high perpendicular magnetic anisotropy.
