PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting water leakage of a coil capable of detecting coolant leakage at low frequency and with high sensitivity by using a small electrode device in detecting the coolant leakage from a conductor of the coil to an insulating layer, and to provide a device for detecting water leakage of the coil to be applied to this detecting method.;SOLUTION: In this coil water leakage detecting method, an AC voltage is applied to the conductor 13, a surface electrode device 15 is pressed against the insulating layer 14, the surface electrode device 15 is grounded through an impedance 22, and a potential of the surface electrode device 15 is measured to detect the existence of coolant leakage supplied to the conductor 13 of the coil 10 which is shielded by the insulating layer 14 to the insulating layer 14, thus determining that coolant leaks from the conductor 13 to the insulating layer 14 when the measured potential becomes higher than that of the normal coil.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
