PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cultivation method for Japanese yam, capable of easily obtaining not annual but perennial Japanese yam which sufficiently grows up without spending labor and cost, and to provide a cultivation container suitable for the cultivation method. PSOLUTION: This cultivation method for Japanese yam includes inclinedly placing the cultivation container which has an extensible insertion hole 2 on the bottom near one end of the longitudinal direction so as to place the end high, leading the top of mother corm 7 into the cultivation container through the insertion hole 2, adhering the insertion hole 2 to the top of the mother corm 7, and cultivating early corm 6 which sprouts from the top of the mother corm 7 in the cultivation container. A perennial Japanese yam which has sufficiently grown up can be obtained by using the characteristic of Japanese yam, which changes to sprout every year. Furthermore, it is possible to obtain high-quality natural Japanese yam while avoiding risk of disease damage and insect damage using the ecosystem of hills and fields, by performing semi natural cultivation applying for wild Japanese yam which grows naturally in hills and fields, and since vine 6a can extend through passing void set in the cultivation container to the outside of the cultivation container, expansion of wild Japanese yam through propagule is not prevented.
