PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deep red phosphor imparting high color rendering properties or a brilliant white phosphor imparting high color rendering properties and to provide a light emitting device emitting visible lights with high luminescence intensity, by combining the phosphors with a stimulation source which emits the light of 350 to 430 nm.;SOLUTION: The phosphor has a crystal phase having chemical composition expressed by general formula [1]. The light emitting device is combined the phosphor and a light emitting source which emits the light of 350 to 430 nm, for irradiation of the light. In the formula, M1is an element selected from a group comprising monovalent, divalent, trivalent and pentavalent elements, wherein the ratio of divalent elements is ≥80 mol.%, the ratio of sum of Ba, Ca and Sr is ≥40 mol.%, the ratio of sum of Ba and Ca (molar ratio) is less than 0.2, M2 is the tetravalent element containing Si and Ge and the sum of the Si and Ge is ≥90 mol.%, Z is a monovalent, divalent elements, H, N or the like elements, for example the phosphor is expressed by Ba0.935Mg0.935Eu0.1Mn0.03SiO4.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
