PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spiral membrane element with which stabilized filtration operation is conducted at a low cost while maintaining a high permeation flux over a long period, a method for operating a spiral membrane module and a method for cleaning the membrane.;SOLUTION: The spiral membrane module is provided with the spiral membrane element 1 having a separation membrane with high backpressure strength. In filtration, the valves 30c and 30d of pipelines 27 and 27a are closed to close a raw water outlet 15, and raw water 7 is supplied from the one end face side of the element 1 through a raw water inlet 13 to conduct dead-end filtration. In cleaning, cleaning water 21 containing a decontaminating chemical is introduced from the end of a water collecting pipe 5 through a permeated water outlet 14, and backwashing is performed at 0.05-0.3 MPa backpressure.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
