PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an interruption of a rotating speed correction of a motor in an impossible range of a speed actual measurement due to a pattern interrupting part of an infinitesimal distance detecting pattern means and to enable a speed measurement of a moving body to be continuously and successively assured with an infinitesimal distance amount as a unit. SOLUTION: A magnetic pattern 4 rotating synchronously with a photosensitive drum 1 is detected by a plurality of magnetic sensors 5 to 7. The pattern 4 is formed with a preset infinitesimal distance amount as a unit, and has an interrupting part 4b. A method for controlling the rotating speed of the motor comprises the steps of processing outputs of the sensors 5 to 7 by interrupting position recognition means 12 to 14, detecting the sensor which passes the part 4b, deciding which of the sensor outputs is input to a motor rotational speed correcting means 17 for controlling the motor 3 by a detecting pulse signal selecting means 15 in response to the result, and thereby correcting to converge the moving speed of the drum 1 to a set moving speed value at each infinitesimal distance amount.
