PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote control system in which control equipment is not erroneously operated by ambient sound of a video telephone terminal side and a control equipment side does not produce undesired electronic sound. PSOLUTION: The remote control system is provided with the video telephone terminal 2 and the control equipment 6 which can communicate with the video telephone terminal 2 through a telephone line network 4, wherein the control equipment 6 controls electronic equipment 8 on the basis of operation information transmitted to the control equipment 6 from the video telephone terminal 2, and the remote control system generates a video pattern obtained by characterizing a specific partitioned area in accordance with the operation information and transmits the video pattern to the control equipment 6. The control equipment 6 analyzes the video pattern to thereby convert the video pattern to a corresponding control command, thereby controlling the electronic equipment 8.
