PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure, accurately by a sensor, the interval between two reference points movable relatively between a lower limit value and an upper limit value of the interval, even if an integrating position of the sensor is shifted from a set integrating position. ;SOLUTION: This method for measuring the interval between two reference points movable between a lower limit value and an upper limit value of the interval by a sensor is especially a method for measuring the interval of a car body 4 of an automobile 2 relative to an unchanging reference point. The sensor for measuring the interval is fixed as near as possible to a prescribed position. Thereafter, an offset is determined from a signal shown by the sensor and a signal shown by a sensor on the described position. The offset is added to the signal shown by the sensor at the time of measurement of the interval, and the interval between both reference points is determined from a composite signal generated in this way.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
