The sub channel allocation apparatus (100) comprises a radio channel evaluator (110) for evaluating the MIMO radio channels for the plurality of users to determine a selection metric for a user, the selection metric being based on elements of a MIMO radio channel matrix of the user. The sub channel allocation apparatus (100) further comprises a pre-selector (120) for selecting a subgroup of the plurality of users based on the selection metrics, the selected users supporting a higher performance on a spatial sub channel than the non-selected users. The sub channel allocation apparatus (100) further comprises a sub channel allocator (130) responsive to the pre-selector (120) for allocating a sub channel to a selected user.
