PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for increasing an optical Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) capacity and thereby increasing the number of VLAN users in a network.;SOLUTION: A path control method for use in the network including at least one WDM optical path comprises a VLAN ID derivation step for deriving a VLAN ID from a received packet, a wavelength ID derivation step for deriving a wavelength ID related to a carrier wavelength of the received packet, and a transfer path decision step for using at least both the VLAN ID and the wavelength ID in order to decide a transfer path in the optical VLAN.
