PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for loading spent fuel assemblies into a fuel storage cask which makes it possible to load higher-burnup spent fuel assemblies in a shorter time by satisfying limiting values of dose rates in the fuel storage case. PSOLUTION: Data on the burnup distribution of each spent fuel assembly stored in a metal cask are input into a CPU (Step 4). The CPU calculates the radiation source intensity distribution of each spent fuel assembly by using those burnup distribution data (Step 5). The storage position of the spent fuel assembly in the cask is determined (Step 6). On the basis of the information on the calculated radiation source intensity distribution and that on the storage position, the dose-rate distribution of the cask is calculated (Step 7). When the answer is affirmative both in determining whether a calculated value of a dose rate is lower than the first set point of the dose rate (Step 8) and in determining whether the calculated value of the dose rate is equal to or higher than the second set point of the dose rate (Step 9), each spent fuel assembly determined by the decisions is stored in the metal cask.
